Top Gear Special 1080p HD: The Essential Playlist for Car Lovers

Top Gear: US Special is a full-length, special edition episode for BBC motoring programme Top Gear, and was first broadcast on BBC Two on 11 February 2007, as part of the 3rd episode of Series 9, with the special repeated in an edited version for UKTV channel Dave. The special sees hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May travelling on a journey from Miami to New Orleans in three used cars to find if it's more economical to buy a vehicle rather than rent one. The Production Notes section of the Top Gear website describes the creation and production of this episode as "...damn near finishing off several members of the crew through exhaustion."[1]

Attempting to see if it is cheaper to buy a car for exploring the southern part of the United States for 2 weeks rather than renting one, Clarkson, Hammond and May travelled to Miami and were each given US$1,000 to see what they could buy. Over the course of several hours, they discovered that there were very few cars available at a price within their budget, with all three having to venture into parts of the city where the risk of danger was great; Hammond found a dealer, during his search, that specialised in decommissioned law enforcement and government cars, while Clarkson encountered a dealer who owned both a small pistol and a rifle with a scope for his personal protection. Eventually, all three met up outside a stadium with the cars that they had managed to find within budget - Clarkson had bought a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS, which he claimed had a murky past to it with the discovery of a mysteriously stained shirt in a compartment next the spare tyre; Hammond had bought a 1991 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, which despite dents and a loose tailgate, was in quite good condition; May had bought a 1989 Cadillac Brougham, which had considerable wear and tear to it, and was quite bouncy as Clarkson and Hammond found when they pushed against it. Despite the initial faults, all three were delighted with their purchases and soon found themselves tasked with travelling to the Moroso Motorsports Park. Along the way, each revealed that their car had other issues to deal with - Clarkson had a radio that could only pick up a gospel preaching radio station, while most of his dials didn't work properly; May's Cadillac had poor acceleration and struggled to achieve a fast speed, yet was the only vehicle with working air-con, which he appreciated in the Florida heat; Hammond had a radio that was broken and not connected, while his pick-up chassis appeared to be bent, veering to the right under acceleration, and to the left when braking.

The US Special was released on DVD as part of the first Great Adventures box-set, which also contains the Polar Special. The DVD release of the special cuts roughly eight minutes of footage from the original broadcast, including a segment featuring a drive through a rainstorm, when the Camaro's wipers failed, and footage from the first scene in which the trio purchase cars. Some music cues were also changed for copyright reasons.

Following broadcast of the special, both the BBC and the UK media regulator Ofcom received 91 complaints in regards to the scene where Clarkson brought in a dead cow on the roof of his Camaro. In response to the criticism of the scene, the BBC defended the programme by stating that the cow had died several days previously and had not been harmed or injured by the presenter.[2]

Top Gear: Patagonia Special is a full length special that was aired as a two-part episode for the BBC car show Top Gear; the first part was aired on 27 December 2014, while the second part was aired a day later on 28 December. The special sees hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, using a selection of cars with V8 engines to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the small-block V8 engine, on a journey across Chile and Argentina, starting from Bariloche and ending on the outskirts of Ushuaia, and includes the infamous scene involving the protesters that the presenters and their film crew encountered and the events that happened; it is the last Top Gear special to be filmed with the hosts, prior to Clarkson's exit from the show in March 2015 followed by Hammond, May, and Executive Producer Andy Wilman shortly afterwards. The incident with the protesters was widely documented and reported by the media, prior to the broadcast of the special.

Unlike previous specials, despite each part doing well to draw in viewers during Christmas week it was aired on, it received mixed reviews from fans and critics, many of whom felt that it was not as entertaining as past specials by the hosts.

Despite good viewing figures, the show drew mixed reviews from critics. Gerard O'Donovan of The Telegraph wrote a favourable review for both parts, each earning a four star rating, with the critic declaring that he enjoyed both parts, and that the ending of the second part "left us in no doubt how serious the situation in Tierra del Fuego had got back in September."[6][7] Ian Burrell of The Independent was also generally favourable of the ending for the special.[8] Fans of the show also gave mixed reactions on Twitter following the broadcast of the two parts, but were generally positive about its ending.[9]

Following the incident, Andy Wilman, executive producer for the show at the time, stated on 2 October that "Top Gear production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme; to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue";[11] on the same day, Clarkson tweeted that the number plate had been a coincidence and that "for once, we did nothing wrong."[11] Clarkson later wrote an article for The Sunday Times in which he stated that he "had to hide under a bed" due to "a mob howling for his blood".[13] He regarded the incident as "the most terrifying thing I've ever been involved in."[14] According to the UK registry, the plate "H982 FKL" has been registered to the Porsche since its manufacture in May 1991.[15] Later that month, on 31 October, Argentine ambassador Alicia Castro demanded a formal apology for the incident when she met with Danny Cohen, the BBC Director of Television, which was refused by the BBC after they stated their intention to broadcast the two-part special as a fair representation of the events that occurred.[16] On 28 May 2015, the BBC Trust ruled that there was not a "cover-up" with the number plate and that it had not been a deliberate reference to the Falklands War, taking no further action as a direct result of its own ruling.[17]

There's a two-model range, but the Plus moniker has made way for 'Performance' badging. The top-spec car (Performance Quattro) sees power rise from 604 to 614bhp, while the entry-level model (Performance RWD) is up from 533 to 562bhp. If you were hoping to snap up one of the 333 R8 GT special editions, you're too late with your 200k. They're all sold.

I have over a decade of experience reviewing TVs, projectors, and other video devices. I was formerly the video editor and primary TV tester for HomeTheaterReview.com, and previously contributed TV coverage to Home Theater Magazine, Electronic House, and other publications. I am an Imaging Science Foundation level II certified video calibrator, and I have the full complement of objective testing gear to measure and evaluate the performance of these TVs.

Sound quality: In talking with people who own or plan to buy smaller TVs, we found that most of them did not intend to connect an external sound system, like a soundbar or surround-sound system, to a TV this small. That means the speaker quality matters, so we evaluated how loud the speakers could play, how evenly balanced the sound was, and especially how clear voices and dialogue sounded.

Gregory Zulu 30 & Jade 28After testing quite a few backpacks, the Gregory Zulu 30 (and Jade 28 for women) is, for most hikers, the best all-season day pack. First off, it's very comfortable, and the mesh "trampoline" back keeps your back dry. Its 30L capacity is enough for all the essentials and plenty of layers for winter hiking. External pockets make it easy to grab gear. It's hard to find something wrong with the pack; if anything, it could be a bit lighter, but overall, it's not heavy. And its price-point makes it not only affordable but generally a great value.-Women's Latest Prices: REI Amazon Men's Latest Prices: REI AmazonMy Review Here 2ff7e9595c
